Grace Eyre is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Allotment Volunteer to help support people with learning disabilities who attend sessions based at our allotment. We need someone with passion to support the allotment with staff and service users.

We are seeking a volunteer to support sessions, which will begin again in the spring (March/April 2023). The volunteer would be welcome to start earlier and continue to work the land during the winter, returning in March/April time to support sessions with growing and tending.

Skills

What skills and experience do I need?

  •  Knowledge of and experience in tending an allotment or garden and, preferably, in sharing that knowledge and experience with others.
  •  Previous experience working with people with learning disabilities is not necessary but very welcome.
  •  Enthusiasm, flexibility, friendliness and a willingness to get involved.
  •  Being a good team player.

Practical Considerations

Our main centre is based on Montefiore Road, near BHASVIC Sixth Form College, in a converted church. The centre is also easily accessed by the No.7 bus route that stops at the opposite end of Montefiore Road and is a 5 minute walk away. Primarily this role is based at our allotment at Weald Allotments in Hove, but it may also involve engaging and travelling within the local area.
