The health promotion team are a busy team who support people living in Brighton access free and confidential sexual health advice and testing. As a volunteers you will support the Health Promotion Teams with the delivery of local sexual health promotion initiatives targeting African and other BME communities in Brighton and Hove.

The Type of Tasks / Activities you could be involved with:

• Assisting with open days, events and presentations

• Promoting HIV and STI testing

• Distributing Health Promotion Resources

• Assisting with surveys and collation of statistical information

• Assisting with mailings and information updating

• Assisting with the production and distribution of information and promotional material


Desirable Skills/Experience Sought:

• Good communication and active listening skills

• Ability to speak to people in an open and supportive manner

• Ability to deliver services in a non-judgemental and non-discriminatory manner

• A commitment to setting and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries

• Ability to engage effectively with BME communities and a strong understanding of BME communities, especially in terms of delivering culturally appropriate health improvement information

• A willingness to develop and maintain own knowledge of HIV and sexual health issues

• Ability to work as part of a team

• Ability to maintain confidentiality

• A commitment to representing THT in a positive & constructive way.

Practical Considerations

Desired Commitment: A minimum of 12 months after completing training

Geographical Area: Brighton and Hove

When Required: Daytime, evening and weekend shifts available

Training & Support: Core induction training plus additional training for role.  Group or one-to-one support provided.

Must be 18 years or over.

When do I need to be available?

Details Desired Commitment: A minimum of 6 months after completing training. Availability Flexible
