Would you like to support people who have served in the armed forces and their families? SSAFA caseworkers visit clients in their homes to work out what type of help they need. Next they find the right sources of support and arrange for clients to access it. This might be funds for special equipment for someone with with a disability, funds for a rental property or help with training costs. Caseworkers also signpost clients onto specialist local services for advice on benefits, housing, mental health, debt, finding work etc.

Volunteer caseworkers are the life blood of  of SSAFA, supporting a growing number of people in need of financial, practical and emotional support. Our trained volunteers listen without judgement to assess and provide tailored support to help people navigate life in and beyond military service. We need you to join the local team to help us achieve this.


You don't need a military background just the ability to listen, some IT skills and good written and spoken English. You need to be a good communicator and have the ability to write reports.

  2. Use your skills and knowledge and life experiences to benefit others.
  3. Support and friendship from your local SSAFA branch and the wider ssafa community.

Practical Considerations

Although working mainly from home, you need to be living in the Brighton, Hove and Lewes area. You will be required to visit veterans and their families in their homes and therefore you will need access to a car or have the availability of public transport.

When do I need to be available?

Details This role is suitable for someone who is looking to offer a regular commitment each week although the days and timings is flexible. You will also need to attend a number of regular meetings each year.
