Gladrags is a charity run mainly by volunteers, and you can be part of our dedicated team!

We especially need more volunteers on our Saturday morning team at the moment, but you are welcome to apply for any day that we are open.

We provide costumes (+7000!) and related resources to community, educational and therapeutic based projects, to support and enrich their work. We offer very low cost costume hire, run a programme of educational workshops, and provide a dress-up tent and ‘Storybox’ activities at community events and venues.

We believe volunteering should be a rewarding experience and therefore we tailor a volunteer’s role as much as possible to suit you.

You may be interested in clothing, costumes, sewing and want to help make items or look after our lovely costumes. Here are our current volunteering positions:

General Costume Store Assistant
Costume Styling Assistant
Vintage and Recycling Assistant
Arts Admin and Marketing Assisistant

We are looking for people who are interested in clothes, especially theatre costumes and vintage.  You will be meeting customers and other volunteers as we are a small team, so it would be helpful if you enjoy communicating with people. Mending, sewing, ironing and steaming are very welcome skills and we offer training in all the above.

General Costume Store Assistant: Assisting with: costume hire; costume care, costume repair and restoration; inventory and labelling; storage work.

Costume Styling Assistant is suitable if you are interested in costume styling and in gaining experience.

Vintage and Recycling: assessing and sorting donated vintage clothing, fabrics and costumes for giving away or for sale. Helping with give away items; researching new avenues for gifting items to groups in need, preparing items for sale, logging measurements.

Arts Admin and Marketing Assisistant: Helping to prepare materials for event PR, including content and posts on our social media platforms.

  1. learning about costumes, their fabrics and their history
  2. working in a very friendly team, practising communication skills
  3. working with interesting customers, working in a professional creative environment.
