Safe in Sussex provides refuge to women and their children who are fleeing domestic violence and abuse.

Our work includes four refuges, group support in the local community, a health relationships education programme for young people, and a helpline for the public.

We are looking for an additional Trustee to join our Board to provide us with digital, marketing and communications expertise to complement the skills and expertise of our existing trustees.

 In addition to using your specialist expertise to help guide our digital, marketing and communications activity,  you would have the responsibilities of a general trustee on our board i.e.

  • To agree and monitor Safe in Sussex’s strategic direction and ensure it pursues its objectives in keeping with these strategic directions.
  • Ensure the organisation functions within the legal, charitable and financial requirements of a charitable organisation;
  • Ensure the financial stability of the organisation and the proper investment of funds in accordance with Safe in Sussex's stated aims and objectives and relevant legislation.

Skills

We are looking for someone who has experience in digital marketing and communications (and ideally, digital fundraising) to help us consider the role of digital across our organisational strategy. We particularly encourage applications from women with a BAME background, who are currently not represented on our Board.

You don’t have to be an expert in domestic violence and abuse or have Trustee experience to be part of our valued team.

You should:

  • Support our mission.
  • Have good, independent judgement.
  • Be willing to speak your mind.
  • Be able to think creatively.
  • Be a team player
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commit to attending our board meetings every six weeks.

As Safe in Sussex is affiliated to Women's Aid we are currently only able to recruit female Board members, due to their current stipulations on affiliated Board composition.
