Garden Session Worker
We are an organic food growing project in the heart of Stanmer Park for the refugee community to have a safe space in nature to re-connect with the earth, share and learn new skills and make long lasting friendships.
We are in the set up phase of our project and now looking for some wonderful volunteers to join our team, we already have some gardening volunteers and fundraisers and now need some experienced support with running sessions.
The role is to run the weekly (Tuesday’s) gardening sessions alongside the project manager or by yourself in her absence for our gardeners (clients). The sessions will run in line with the seasons and have a mix of extra activities throughout the summer that have been chosen by the gardeners, which will be organised by the project manager.
There will be a group of volunteers that will work alongside our gardeners and a volunteer coordinator who will support them and you.
The site is quarter of an acre, we are currently only using the top half for food production. We would like to carry on with growing the food on the top terrace as well as make plans for use of the bottom half - this is where we would like to involve the people we are working with to see what they would like to do, so part of your role will be to facilitate those sessions.
We are going to be fundraising for more structures on site as well as building an outdoor kitchen in the centre of the project. We will be looking for funding for core costs, if we are successful then you could be paid for the work you do with us.

If you drive you can park close to or on the site.
cycle or take the 25 bus which stops at the bottom of the park, it’s then a 25
minute walk to the site.
When do I need to be available?
|Details||The sessions will run every Tuesday 10-3 pm. We would ask if you could be on site for 9 am to do a risk assessment and prepare for the day. Your day would finish at 4 pm giving you and the other volunteers the time to pack everything away. You will stop in the middle of the day for a shared lunch (when we have produce we will be doing some cookery sessions too) and breaks throughout the day as and when people want them. If you have an extra hour a week to spare to help out with session planning then that would be wonderful, but don’t worry if not. The role will be for six months, running from April to September, possibly into early October.|
