Breathing Spaces a small social enterprise that uses gardening and being in nature for health and wellbeing. Nature and gardening have a special power to calm and gently refresh body, mind and emotions - lowering stress, providing purpose and connecting people.
We grow flowers for sale at a community centre ‘flower farm’ in Worthing; and the Sompting Estate kindly allows us to pick some wildflowers from the old barnyard on Dankton Lane, Sompting, to add to our bunches.
We harvest only a tiny proportion of the abundant flowers. We have planted native hedging, we are renovating an ephemeral pond and building a ‘hibernaculum’ for over-wintering amphibians. Recently we installed a log hive for wild bees as part of We Are FoodPioneers’ Bees & Seas project.
Thanks to the Rampion Fund (through Sussex Community Foundation) we are encouraging people from Worthing and Sompting to get involved through volunteering, guided walks from either town, and special activities like mapping the flora, butterflies, moths and pond-life. We hope you will join us.
Until the end of June, we are welcoming volunteers every Thursday morning from 10am-1pm. The (day may change after this) . You will be helping to remove some over dominant vegetation and generally care for the site.
No experience needed.
This is a lovely opportunity to get outdoors, meet new people and improve your own well being.
