Holistic Therapies Volunteer (Forget Me Not Unit) Swandean Worthing
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
The Forget Me Not Unit is a specialist acute dementia unit which currently has 2x 10 bedded wards, with a 3rd opening later in 2022. Patients, who are admitted from across Sussex, are experiencing severe symptoms of their dementia and requiring specialist assessment and treatment.
We are looking for a volunteer with experience and qualifications in massage or aromatherapy who can provide 1:1 interventions. There is a huge evidence base for these sensory based interventions for people with dementia and so someone who has some experience in these therapies would be a welcome addition to the unit. Safe use of therapeutic massage and aromatherapy scents are proven to be supportive in helping patients coping with negative symptoms of their dementia.
