The Wild Mind Project would welcome a volunteer who identifies as LGBTQ+ to help us deliver our programmes, to support the emotional and mental well-being of LGBTQ+ young people, usually aged between 16 and 25.

Our programmes are held outside (weather permitting) in green spaces where the young people engage in conservation, gardening or local history leaning. This is combined with creative activities such as painting, needle felting, whittling, Lino-cutting, wood work, tie-dyeing and cooking on an open fire. We talk and the group share individual and group struggles.

The volunteer would help us set-up and pack away at the end of the session, collect evaluation data, make coffee/tea, help with delivery activities and talk to the young people.

A love of nature, and a friendly and enthusiastic personality is important.

The following would be helpful but are not a requirement:

  • Lived experience of mental ill-health.
  • Youth work experience.
  • Gardening or conservation knowledge.
  • An interest in art and creative activities.

  • A chance to support your young LGBTQ+ community, who are struggling with mental ill-health.
