Sussex Prisoners' Families
Sussex Prisoners’ Families is a vibrant and established not-for-profit organisation based in Sussex. Set up in 2013, we provide practical and emotional support to families affected by family imprisonment. We do this through a range of support services in the criminal courts, prisons and community, delivered by a committed and energetic staff team and a wonderful group of volunteers.
We believe a strong board is vital to our success and progress, and we are looking for experienced contributions to our operations from our board members. We are learning as we go, so the right candidates will have to be patient, driven and determined to move the organisation forward and help us develop. Over the next year we are looking to convert from a Community Interest Company (CIC) to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), so a new NED will become a Trustee, and we are exploring growth into other areas of the South East (such as Kent, Surrey and Hampshire). Our vision for the future is to broaden and strengthen our existing services so that families can access the support they want, when they want it and where they want it. We believe that families are key to helping us develop that vision. The new Non-Executive Directors will work closely with the founders of Sussex Prisoners’ Families and play a vital part in the shaping and strategic development of the organisation.
We are looking for people with knowledge, skills and experience of working with children and young people, Legal Services and Criminal Justice, Education and Social Care or with University and Research experience. We are conscious that ethnically diverse community members experience systemic racism and are over-represented in the criminal justice system, so we value and welcome applications from these communities. We also encourage applications from people with lived experience of the criminal justice system.
