We have an exciting opportunity to help us on our mission to improve wellbeing through innovative technology such as Virtual Reality. This fun, simple-to-use technology gives residents the opportunity to 'travel' to different places around the world from the comfort of their chair in a 3D, digital space and has proven to have benefits to happiness and well-being.

'Getting to Know You' (GTKU) is a new community project that is based in Southern Housing Group's Community Investment Team. Southern Housing Group is a housing organisation and this project in particular works across our sheltered schemes that home residents aged 55 and over. GTKU was set up to improve confidence and well-being of our older residents and to create socially inclusive communities through volunteers engaging with residents, providing companionship and facilitating social activities. We have 11 sheltered schemes based around Brighton and Hove and volunteers play a pivotal role in what we do.

Skills

  •  An enthusiastic, friendly approach
  •  Must be committed to contributing towards positive social change – particularly when it comes to overcoming barriers to social inclusion amongst older generations
  • Someone who has great communication and understands the need to be patient and flexible when it comes to working with vulnerable adults
  • We have the equipment and provide the training , but we need volunteers to help us facilitate these sessions which will be based at our sheltered schemes - you don't have to be tech-savvy but basic digital skills could be useful.

Benefits

  • Grow your skills
  • Have a positive impact on your local community
  • Meet new people.
