Sustainable food and community garden volunteers

Sacred Earth CBS

Interested in gardening and growing your own food? Want to be part of a sustainable food production project and increase food security in our community? Love nature and being outdoors? Then come and join us at Sacred Earth as a volunteer!

Tasks will include things like:

  • planting,
  • harvesting,
  • weeding,
  • woodland management,
  • chicken care,
  • poly-tunnel management,
  • compost making,
  • mulching,
  • raised bed building

and much more.

No skills or experience needed, just a willingness to get your hands in the soil, work outside in all weathers and an appreciation of nature! (and able to make a good cup of tea)

  • connect and immerse yourself in a private, quiet, wild space in nature, where biodiversity is thriving (think badgers, foxes, trees, lakes, kingfishers, buzzards, kestrels),
  • learn how to grow food in an organic way that is the least disturbing to nature and involves some organic and biodynamic practices. You will be able to take these new skills home and hopefully put them into practice in your own home! Whether that's building raised beds in your garden or setting up herb and tomato plants on your windowsill,
  • be part of an emerging community of people who are moving toward a food revolution of becoming food secure and increasing resilience.

Practical Considerations

We are in the hamlet of Marle Green, with the nearest bus stop in Horam village around a mile away. From here you can walk along the cuckoo trail (around 20 mins) straight to our site. Alternatively you can get the train to Polegate and cycle down the cuckoo (around 7 miles). If you can car share or drive, we are based on Horebeech Lane. Please message for further instructions if you are interested as we are quite hidden away!

When do I need to be available?
