Are you able to produce accounts and look after the finances of a small community organisation?  Would you like to feel part of a friendly, supportive group who are making your community more sustainable? Can you spare 6-8 hours a month? If so, we'd love to meet you!

Green Tides is a partnership of 40 volunteer groups in Adur and Worthing who work in gardens, parks, cemeteries, beaches and wild spaces, improving the natural habitat and enabling local people to get outdoors and do something positive for them and their environment.

Green spaces have become even more important to people's lives since the start of the COVID restrictions. And public bodies are increasingly recognising their value to community wellbeing. This is a very exciting time to get involved. We're currently developing a strategy to expand our work and make a bigger difference to more people.

Green Tides was set up a couple of years ago and recently became a Community Interest Company. We are run by a small board of Directors which meets every two months.  And the board meets with the volunteer groups every other month. There is also an annual general meeting.

We are now looking for someone to be our Treasurer. There is an option to become a Director of the CIC after 6 months.

Our income is modest and our finances are very simple.  The Treasurer is responsible for:

  • Recording income and expenditure and producing simple reports.
  • Working with our accountant to prepare the annual accounts.
  • Attending our committee meetings (6 times a year) and AGM to present the finances to the committee.
  • Paying invoices and monitoring the online account.
  • Working with the Directors on funding applications.

This is a hands-on Treasurer role, responsible for bookkeeping. We have an accountant for the annual returns to HMRC and Companies House.

Skills

Ideally, we are looking for someone who is a bookkeeper or accountant; or who has significant finance experience in another role.

Although our finances are modest and straightforward, we need someone who is confident and experienced.

We're sorry but we don't have the knowledge or time to support accountancy students (unless you are working for an accountancy firm and can access expert support at work).

Benefits

  • We are a very friendly bunch! This is a chance to make new friends and get to know what's going on locally.
  • The community groups we support are a fun and positive bunch of people to be involved with and Green Tides' meetings are positive, inspiring and uplifting!
  • You'll be helping to make a positive difference to the well being of our community.

Practical Considerations

  • You will need to have access to a computer, phone and a good internet connection.
  • You must be comfortable participating in Zoom meetings.
