Safe in Sussex is a charity which supports women and children experiencing domestic abuse and provides educational programmes in the community.

We are looking for a trustee to help to raise income through fundraising activities.

Safe in Sussex receives income from a variety of sources - statutory, project funding, charity shop and donations.

We have an ambitious programme of action to help women and children in West Sussex and need to generate more income to provide the resources for our work.  We believe there is an untapped opportunity in the county to raise funds through direct appeals and other fundraising activities and we are looking for the right person to take this forward at board level, supported by two community fundraising staff.

By expanding our resources you will be a key person in helping to extend our reach to deliver more services in new and innovative ways and help to prevent more people suffering the damage caused by domestic abuse.

Safe in Sussex is restricted by its constitution to women only at Board level.

The ideal person will be confident operating at board level with an empathic approach to the issues of families experiencing domestic abuse.

She will have excellent people skills and an entrepreneurial approach to raising funds.

She will also work with other trustees and staff to promote the charity in line with its strategic objectives.

This trustee will join a supportive and friendly board of women who are focussed on supporting other women and children at a crucial time in our development.

We are determined to raise more funds to deliver more services, and to have fun whilst doing so!

Practical Considerations

Applications are considered in the first instance by the chair and secretary and suitable applicants are invited to attend board meetings as an observer.

At the third meeting if all parties are happy, the applicant is invited to join the board.

References are taken up prior to the third meeting and appropriate checks and training organised thereafter.
