The Clock Tower Sanctuary is the only drop-in day centre in Brighton & Hove for young people experiencing homelessness.

We work to improve the life chances of everyone who seeks our help through three projects: Crisis Support; Building Trust & Confidence; Towards Stability. These are underpinned by one-to-one case working with CTS Support Coordinators with assistance from our trained volunteers. 

We have secured significant grant funding to develop four new areas of work: tenancy support, healthcare, peer mentoring and digital information provision. 

The input of a strong Board is key to our development, in shaping and defining our strategy and supporting our staff team. We are now recruiting trustees to address specific skills gaps. We hope that new trustees will use their skills and experience to deliver maximum impact for these projects.

The current Board has a robust mix of skills. To help us develop our offer to young people, we are now looking for candidates with specialist experience in either mental health; fundraising; or public affairs.

The Board meets six times per year: four early-evening meetings and two away-days. These meetings are usually held in  Brighton, although we are currently meeting online due to COVID.  There are also two committees which each meet four times a year: Finance; and Governance & Risk. We expect new Trustees to join one of the committees.

To help us develop our offer to young people, we are now looking for candidates with specialist experience in the following areas:

  • Healthcare, particularly mental health, alcohol/substance use, dual diagnosis and primary care, to help define our future healthcare strategy and services.
  • Fundraising - particularly individual giving and digital fundraising, to strengthen the Board’s understanding of this area and to provide strategic support to our high-performing Fundraising & Communications team.
  • Policy and public affairs, to help us work out how to champion the needs and rights of future homeless young people, while maintaining a service for those who are currently experiencing homelessness.

To improve the diversity of the current board we want to strongly encourage applications from people of colour and those with lived experience of homelessness or insecure housing.


Clock Tower Sanctuary is a professionally run, sustainably funded organisation with a strong reputation in the local area. Joining our board will give you the opportunity to use your professional skills and experience to improve the lives of homeless young people.

Practical Considerations

  • Closing date for applications is 29th March 2021
  • Interviews will take place in March or April
  • Trustees are given a full induction and are able to claim reasonable expenses to enable them to carry out their duties. 

When do I need to be available?

Details The Board meets four times a year at 6pm on Wednesdays. Away days are held on Saturdays. Both meetings are usually held in Brighton but are currently online due to COVID. Trustees are also asked to join one of our two committees which also meet four times a year. Dates and times are flexible, based on the attendees’ availability.
