The Chair provides leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees, ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity, as well as oversight and scrutiny of the charity’s operations. Chair of Trustees role is provide strategic leadership to the Board of Trustees.  To ensure that policies, crafted and articulated by trustees and management, are in line with values and with the principles of good administration. To ensure that procedures are in place for activities and internal operations that comply with the principles of good administration.  Chair meetings, with an eye to reaching decisions after due discussion. Ensure full participation, faithful recording, and adherence to time limits. Represent the organisation as a figurehead, and delegate the function when appropriate. Carry out the duties delegated by the trustees to the Chair as appropriate. Review supplier contracts and renegotiate as required.   


Skills

Experience with ideally a business or financial background. Experience of working at board, trustee, or committee level, you do not need to have been a Chair before. Strategic vision.  Experience of charity governance, policy and chairing meetings. Financial management understanding to work with the Treasurer and a broad understanding of charity finance issues. Good understanding of charity governance issues. Exhibit strong communication skills. Ability to foster and promote a collaborative team environment. Use of independent judgement to promote and protect Heene Community Centre's interests. Ability to think creatively and strategically. Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion. A strong personal commitment to the values of the Heene Community Centre. An understanding of Heene Community Centre and the local area.

When do I need to be available?

Details • Half to one day a week (flexible). • Trustee meetings are held every 6 weeks on a Wednesday afternoon at 2pm. • The AGM is held once a year after a Trustee meeting.
