Can you provide the following?
-A commitment to the provision of quality services and support for all disabled people as well as those in Brighton and Hove.
-A preparedness and ability to make the commitment required.
-A commitment to the principles of equal opportunities for all service users.
-A friendly and supportive manner and ability to deal appropriately with a wide variety of people and organisations.
-An ability to use ones own initiative and carry out the role independently (though support and discussion can always be sort from the Advocacy Officer or other Volunteer Advocates).
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-To demonstrate empathy with clients and ability to understand their needs, plus discuss issues of a personal nature with a sensitive, non-judgemental or controlling approach.
-Subject to a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check at enhanced level.
Maybe you have done or have some of these? These are some skills, knowledge and experience we are looking for. However, if you don’t have these don’t worry as we can offer training and development within these areas.
-Some experience of working with disabled people.
-Some knowledge and understanding of disability and disablement issues.
-Some Knowledge of local service provision.
-Ability to deal with occasional challenging situations and behaviours.
-Some experience of working with people with complex needs.
-Some knowledge and understanding of the Social Model of Disability.
