Volunteer Gateway Assessor

Are YOU interested in volunteering with Citizens Advice? We are looking for new volunteers to help people sort out their problems. Citizens Advice provides free, independent, impartial and confidential advice to the public. You will be based in Hove Town Hall. Initially the role is telephone based.
After training and observing current Assessors, the role requires you to talk on the phone to callers to our Adviceline. As well as recording a caller's details, you will be listening with empathy and using your skills to identify what the caller wants and what help we can give. You will help by giving information from our extensive national information system, by making an appointment for more detailed advice, by signposting to other organisations and/or making a referral. You will then write up the call. Throughout each call and session you will be supported by the Advice Session Supervisor.
After being signed off in this role, you talk face-to-face to people who have come in to our drop-in sessions. Further down the line, there are opportunities to train as an advisor.
The Assessor role involves one-off contact with callers, casework is not part of this role.
We are looking for those with a commitment to the aims and principles of the CAB service. Excellent communication skills. Being open and approachable. You should have the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing and have the ability to quickly sift through information and extract what is relevant.
You need to be able to use a computer whilst speaking on the phone.

When do I need to be available?
|Details||You will commit to a minimum of 2 sessions per week (approx 6 hours) for 12 months. The 8 week training course requires attendance at 2 sessions per week plus homework.|
