Brighton and Hove Independent Mediation Service is recruiting young people for a mediator training course. Our goal is to have a skilled and diverse cohort of mediators to volunteer with Brighton and Hove Independent Mediation Service.
JOB TITLE: Volunteer mediator
RESPONSIBLE TO: Caseworker & Training Manager
HOURS OF WORK: Flexible
PAY: Unpaid - expenses only
To mediate between parties involved in community
conflict. To help parties resolve their differences or to reduce the intensity
of conflict between them by mutual agreement without recourse to the formal
process of the law.
METHOD: To work in pairs, assisting those in dispute to negotiate over the issues that divide them. To be responsible for the conduct of the mediation process.
REQUIREMENTS: To attend training and supervision sessions provided by the Service and to act in compliance with the Service’s policies.

SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
To listen and communicate effectively.
To act in non-judgemental manner and maintain client confidentiality.
To empathise with and be able to relate to people from varied backgrounds.
- Gain new skills which can be used in many situations
- Opportunity to work with experienced mediators
- Work with a great team of community mediators
- Awareness sessions will take place in January with training scheduled in March
