Do you have experience of strategic planning? Would you like to help a charity increase its impact? Do you have some time to spare in the next few months to help produce a strategic plan for a small, but ambitious strategy?  Then this role might be right up your street (and ours!)

The Kennedy St Foundation supports families and individuals affected by substance use disorder.   We were founded as a social enterprise by Kevin Kennedy (Curly from Coronation St) and Clare Kennedy in 2016, to reach more people in the community that want to embark on a journey of recovery and transformation. In 2020 we became a registered charity. 

We run many projects: Community Connections; Social Entrepreneur workshops; Wellbeing coaching;Film making Academy; Pop-up DryBars; Mentoring; Social media support. And we have many celebrity supporters.

The demand for our support has grown significantly since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Overcoming problems with drugs, alcohol, or mental health is hard at the best of times. It’s even harder if you can’t leave the house to access support. Social isolation and loneliness are big factors for people drinking more or turning to drugs at any time. At a time when most of us are feeling more anxious than usual, more people are likely to struggle with mental health, drug or alcohol problems.

We are now looking to refresh our strategy - to enable us to respond to the very different world we now find ourselves in, and to reflect our new charitable status. This is an important piece of work for us which will be the building block from which we can secure funding for growth. 

So we are looking for a volunteer with experience of strategic planning, to help us through the process of developing our new strategy and documenting the output. 

We'd like to get on with this job as soon as possible.  But we are flexible and can work round your availability.  You may be on furlough and not sure when you will be expected back. We understand that most people are living with a lot of uncertainty at the moment. Please get in touch if you're interested and we can talk about how to fit the task round your other commitments.

We are recruiting for this role despite the COVID-19 emergency because it's important for our future. We would really like to hear from you if you're interested, even if it may not be practical for us to meet in person for some time. We could talk by phone or video link initially so you can find out more about the role and if it might be right for you. 

Skills

You should have experience of strategy development but it doesn't need to have been in a charity.  Wherever you've gained your experience, you should be able to adapt the approach so it's proportionate and useful for a small organisation.

Practical Considerations

We will need to do a lot of the work via zoom, phone and email while lockdown restrictions are in place.  We're up for that if you are!

Details We are keen to get on with the strategic plan as soon as possible - so it would be great if you can start soon. Perhaps you're on furlough? if not available immediately, we would still like to talk to you to see if we can find a a timeframe that works for both of us. This is a one-off task. It is hard for us to estimate how long it will take - we're hoping you will have the expertise to design a process that's appropriate and proportionate for a small charity like us.
